Precision Medicine: Present Challenges for Future Cures

The future of medicine is being increasingly articulated around the notion of precision, with the promise of therapies that target no longer the general or average identity of diseases but rather their concrete and singular unfolding in individuals, a promise that has already been fulfilled in a few brilliant cases.
Importantly, it is not only therapies that are being reframed around the goal of greater precision: from diagnosis to prevention all the way to the very fabric of health care systems, the entire edifice of medicine, in its complex ramifications through our rapidly changing societies, is being challenged by the growing ambition to the precision and, sometimes, the personalization of cure and care, meant in their widest sense.
